1st place: “EVERYDAYS: THE FIRST 5000 DAYS”, 69.3 million dollars
The record for the most expensive NFT ever sold (and one of the most expensive works of art ever sold) goes to EVERYDAYS: THE FIRST 5000 DAYS.
A work of art created by the famous digital artist Mike Winkelman was sold at Christie’s for 69.3 million dollars. This was the first time a venerable auction house had sold an entirely digital work of art. NET is a collage of 5,000 of Beeple’s early works, showcasing his development as an artist throughout his career.
It was bought by Vignes “Metakovan” Sundaresan, who initially remained a pseudonym, but later revealed his identity, explaining it this way: “The goal was to show Indians and people of color that they too can be patrons, that cryptocurrency was a balancing force between the West and the rest of the world”
2nd place: “Cryptopunk #7804”, 7.5 million dollars
Dylan Field, CEO of software development company Figma bought the second most expensive NFT in history – CryptoPunk #7804. In March 2021, NFT was sold for 4200 ETH, at that time this amount was equivalent to 7.5 million dollars.
CryptoPunks is a randomly generated set of 10,000 unique numeric characters. They are among the first examples of non-interchangeable tokens issued on the Ethereum blockchain.
They were developed by Matt Hall and John Watkinson from the American game studio Larva Labs.
3rd place: “CROSSROAD”, $6.66 million
CROSSROAD is an NFT created by renowned digital artist Beeple. It has messages directed against Trump, and an enlarged figure similar to Donald Trump lying in a pile of defeated, with profanity on his naked body.
However, this art object did not always look like this: the artwork was designed to change depending on the results of the 2020 elections. If Trump had won, he would have depicted him wearing a crown, walking through flames.
